2017 Fundraiser Honors Women

SANTA MONICA MOUNTAINS FUND SPRING CELEBRATION TO HONOR WOMEN ENVIRONMENTALISTS AND CAMPAIGNERS

Thousand Oaks, March 22, 2017: The women who have tirelessly supported local mountains and open space over so many years will be honored at the Santa Monica Mountains Fund’s Spring Celebration May 7th at the Anthony C. Beilenson Interagency Visitor Center, Calabasas.

They include the ‘founding mothers’ of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, Sue Nelson, Jill Swift and Margot Feuer, as well as former State Senator Fran Pavley and wildlife / mountain lion campaigners Beth Pratt Bergstrom and Julie Newsome.  Their work ensures the mountains will remain open and the fragile habitat protected for future generations.

Donna De Lory, singer / songwriter / dancer and Calabasas native, will headline the musical line-up at the Spring Celebration.  De Lory’s music combines sparkling pop savvy with a deeply felt sense of spirituality, and has won her a strong worldwide fan base. Her voice can be heard on albums by Carly Simon, Santana, Belinda Carlisle, Selena, Bette Midler, Barry Manilow, and Madonna, with whom she toured and recorded for twenty years.

Upcoming gothic folk duo Steps of Doe (Molly Falck and Keena Batti) will also entertain the gathering.  Molly and Keena set up Steps of Doe after graduating from UC Berkeley.  Their delightful first single Beneath the Shadow of the King is both upbeat and moody http://www.stepsofdoe.com/about-1.  With echoes of the 60s folk scene in Greenwich Village and hints of the medieval, Steps of Doe’s sound is polished and original.

Sara Horner, President of the Santa Monica Mountains Fund, said “We look forward to welcoming those who love and appreciate the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains as a place of natural solace in our busy world.”

Money raised at the event will go towards the Fund’s work to support wildlife conservation, nature education and trails management in the Santa Monica Mountains.

Individual tickets are $130 each, and include all-access to food, drink and entertainment. For more information, please go to: www.samofund.org/spring-celebration
