COVID-19 Update

We hope that the information below will update you on the status of the parks within the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area (SMMNRA). These actions have been taken in line with coronavirus protective guidelines issued by the State of California.

Effective ‪May 9, 2020‬, the National Park Service is lessening restrictions within Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area trails, trailheads, and parking lots. The Santa Monica Mountains Visitor Center at King Gillette Ranch and at Satwiwa, along with Solstice Canyon trails and parking lots, will remain closed.

California State Parks in Ventura County and LA County are open. Restrooms at Pt Mugu State Park are closed - www.parks.ca.gov

Trails managed by Mountains Restoration Trust are closed but expect to be open from May 15th. www.mountainstrust.org/recreation

  • Please practice social distancing and avoid crowded areas.

  • Provide at least six feet of space between yourself and others.

  • Bring a mask and wear it when you pass other people.

  • Do NOT gather in groups! Head outdoors with members of your household only.

  • Stay closer to home and visit your nearest trails.

  • Observe trail etiquette. Be courteous and communicate with others and step aside, if possible, when others approach you on a trail.

  • Use Leave No Trace principles. Pack it in and pack it out. Remember that restrooms may still be closed in some areas.

  • If parking lots are full, consider returning at a different time or going to a less crowded trail. For your safety, we may need to restrict access if parks, trails or parking lots reach capacity.
