DARLYN PRIETO From Samo Youth

Darlyn Prieto worked for Santa Monica Mountains Fund's SAMO Youth program last summer. She was selected to continue her employment with SAMO Fund by working with other divisions in the Park. Check out what she has to about her work with the Fund:

"I was fortunate enough to be a member of the 2022 SAMO Youth cohort. The past few months have taught me invaluable lessons that will undoubtedly spark my career for many years to come. It is because of SAMO Youth that I have had the opportunity to work as both an Interpretation Education Intern and Special Park Use Intern. It has been such a unique experience being a part of the Every Kid Outdoors program and how transformative it is for the students. Most times, these
students are visiting the park for the very first time and are completely awe-struck. I am humbled to be a part of their experiences and has inspired me to be an advocate for those communities and ensure everyone has access to the wide range of benefits that nature has to offer. As an environmental educator I am able to nurture students’ connection to the natural world and give them the space and encouragement they need to become stewards of the earth.
I appreciate the opportunity to have been a part of SY as it has allowed me to work on a variety of projects, observe the interworking of NPS,
meet the most amazing people, but most importantly has allowed me to provide Naturaleza Para Todos."
