Native Species Planting (City of Agoura Hills/Cheeseboro Cyn Project)

Recently, SAMO Fund in partnership with the National Park Service gathered on the picturesque stretch of Chesebro Road in Old Agoura Hills to reintroduce native plant species into the community.

The project was made possible through the generous donation of Dan and Connie Burkhart, local residents who noticed an overgrowth of the devilishly invasive species, tree of heaven which has become widespread across North America. To preserve the ecological diversity of Aguora Hills that aides in environmental conservation and provides homes and sustenance for local wildlife, 64 native plants including coffeeberry, sage, lilac, holly leaf cherry, deergrass were planted.

Aguora Hills Mayor Illece Buckley Webber, Councilmember Jeremy Wolf and Mayor Pro Tem, Penny Sylvester all showcased their expertise in environmental stewardship by helping plant alongside NPS ecologists and SAMO Fund volunteers.

The planting ceremony demonstrated the impact of community involvement and environmental care and serves as a testament to the collective passion for environmental preservation, underscoring the profound impact that residents can make within their communities. Together, through continued dedication and collaboration, residents of Agoura Hills pave the way towards a greener, more sustainable future for generations to come.
