SHRUBS IN The Santa Monica Mountains

Ashley Borrego led 100 students, teachers, and parents on their first visit to the KGR Visitor Center during the 2022-23 SHRUBS season. Guests gathered in the courtyard to hear how volunteers help steward the mountains, learn of Talepop and local Indigenous nations, as well as how they can get started on their journey to working in the outdoors. Students walked along the gardens and completed technical drawings of 3 different leaves noticing the different structures, they made their way to the pond taking notice of changing weather conditions and biospheres, then they completed a scavenger hunt in the exhibit hall.

Ashley was a SAMO Fund intern for 6 months in 2021. She then worked on the Monarch project before moving to work for the National Park Service - congratulations Ashley!
