MANY CONGRATULATIONS TO DAVID SZYMANSKI!

Yesterday, National Park Service (NPS) Superintendent, David Szymanski announced his acceptance of a new position as the new Pacific West Regional Director. In his new position, he will oversea the 65 parks across the region, spanning 13 million acres and welcoming 65 million visitors a year!

We are happy for David as he accepts this well-deserved promotion within the NPS, but it is with bittersweet emotions that we say goodbye to him. He is the longest-serving superintendent of Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, and has led the incredible partnership between NPS and SAMO Fund for over 11 years - together we have achieved so much. We know that David will go on to greater accomplishments and continue to make meaningful changes in the world.

We are proud to have had David as a partner in our journey. Congratulations, David! We will be cheering for you.

“I am inspired by the people who care so much for our parks, programs, and the people they serve, I look forward to working with our fantastic NPS professionals, Tribal nations and other partner governments, communities, and stakeholders to ensure that our parks serve people today and generations to come.”

- David Szymanski
