Rim of the Valley - Latest News!

Are you ready to enjoy 200 consecutive miles of trail?

We sure are, and thanks to an educational and enjoyable article written by Jaclyn Cosgrove of L.A. Times we can get a few steps closer to this reality!

In 2016, the National Park Service (NPS) released results from a six-year special resource study of the Rim of the Valley Corridor. They recommended more than doubling the size of the existing Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. The Rim of the Valley Corridor Preservation Act expands the recreation area to include almost all the land recommended by the NPS study. This new expansion will be known as the Rim Of The Valley.

The Bill (introduced in the House and Senate) will mean that the NPS will have the authority to improve access to the land (e.g. trails, roads); study the wildlife; participate in conservation and recreation planning; coordinate programs with non-federal land management partners; provide technical assistance for protecting resources; contribute financially to programs that protect natural resources, and more.
