18,000 Milkweed Given in 2024, thanks to The Challenge Cost Share Grant

The Challenge Cost Share grant provides necessary resources that empower SAMO Fund to continue hosting milkweed giveaways in underserved communities. This grant supports a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation project aimed at planting 100,000 native milkweed plants across the Los Angeles Region, enhancing monarch habitat in both public lands and urban areas.

Last year, SAMO Fund, in partnership with the National Park Service, donated 31,000 milkweed plants to over 4,300 people living in 401 different zip codes in SoCal, spanning from Santa Paula to Oceanside.

With the help of this grant, we have donated nearly 18,000 milkweed plants in 2024 this far and will continue to do so through to our last giveaway of the year on September 28th. This initiative not only safeguards the monarch butterflies, but also fosters community engagement, biodiversity and environmental resilience, creating a sustainable haven for both nature and people.
