 1100 Digitized Specimens

SAMO Fund employees, Hank Dingman and Takuma Chipman, as well as several vegetation interns, have recently completed digitization of 1100 herbarium specimens in the National Park Service’s collection in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

Now that the digitization stage completed, Hank will next pair each digitized image with a database record to eliminate any errors, before uploading all the data to the Consortium of California Herbaria. When this is complete, all the digitized specimens will be available to the public!

The process - and the value of this work -was recently featured in a story by Spectrum News titled "From Petals to Pixels."
