Position Location: Rancho Sierra Vista/ Satwiwa
Schedule: 40hrs/wk, 10-hour days (7:00 am – 5:30 pm) Wednesday through Saturday. (Schedule will change to Tuesday through Friday in mid-spring to accommodate shifting work priorities). Part-time work may be possible depending on the candidate’s availability.
Duration: 1 year, 9/30/2026 – 10/2/2027
Hourly Rate: $18.18 – $22.83/ hr., depending on experience and/or education

Overview

Become a part of a restoration team and help restore damaged natural areas through restoration and invasive plant control.

Major Duties

• Conduct site monitoring and maintenance for native plant restoration projects.
• Install a variety of native plant species in coastal sage scrub and grassland habitats.
• Install protective cages to reduce herbivory and improve native plant survival.
• Conduct invasive plant mapping, monitoring, and management.
• Remove invasive plant species using manual methods, including hand pulling and hand tools.
• Apply herbicides using hand sprayers, backpack sprayers, and tank sprayers in accordance with established protocols.

Requirements

• Possession of a valid state driver’s license
• Physical ability to perform arduous duties (ability to lift 50 pounds)
• Strong hiking skills and ability to work in difficult weather conditions.
• Works well with others: good communication, positive attitude, and good conduct.

This is an entry-level position. Experience is not required. However, if you have experience
in the following, be sure to highlight it in your resume and describe where you acquired it!

• Identifying plant species and/or working with coastal Southern California plant communities.
• Planting native plants in restoration areas.
• Working with, leading, or coordinating volunteers.
• Operating mechanical equipment, including augers, brush cutters, mowers, etc.
• Hauling and loading in off-road environments (equipment, supplies, tools, trailers, etc.).
• Mechanical equipment maintenance and repair.
• Experience using GIS.
• Invasive plant control.
• Possess a Qualified Applicator License.
• Collecting, cleaning, growing, and storing native seed.
• Experience in native plant propagation.
• Possess a commercial driver’s license with air brakes and/or tank endorsement.
