Seeds of Change: Empowering youth in Restoring Native Habitat - thanks to SoCal Gas Climate Champions

We're thrilled to share that we've been chosen as recipients of a $25,000 grant for our Seeds of Change: Empowering Youth in Restoring Native Habitat project. This grant, made possible through the SoCal Gas Climate Champions Grant initiative, is a part of a $400,000 fund allocated to a total of thirteen non-profit organizations in Los Angeles County dedicated to environmental stewardship.

Our project aims to identify and address invasive plant species. Through Seeds of Change, at-promise youth will participate in paid work shifts at the native plant project nursery for the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing. They will work under the guidance of experienced leaders and nursery staff to learn about native plants identification and care.

The team will also cultivate native plants from seeds collected locally within the Santa Monica Mountains. The strongest, most suitable plants will be part of the habitat on the crossing, making the journey over the 101 Freeway seamless and as natural as possible for the local wildlife.

SAMO Fund is grateful for SoCal Gas for funding this project.‌
